PROBLEMS AT HOME
With Mark Carney’s latest donation, Canadian aid to Ukraine since 2022 stands at about $25 billion. The highways and bridges here in Niagara are in need of maintenance. How about redirecting some of that foreign aid to the crumbling Canadian infrastructure?

FAILING GRADE
I’ve been a Maple Leafs fan since 1967, I bleed blue, and I’m a retired justice of the peace. I also hold a Chartered Director designation, which means I’m trained to assess governance, risk and accountability in a rigorous, boardroom-ready way. On every measure that matters to Leafs Nation and to Toronto’s public trust, John Chayka fails the test. In a role that stewards the franchise’s integrity, his history cannot be glossed over or minimized. A governing principle for Toronto must be ‘trust first, spectacle second.’ Discipline over swagger: A front office lead must embody discipline, not just deliver bold headlines. Chayka’s past raises legitimate questions about governance discipline, culture-building, and adherence to league standards — precisely the traits a Toronto franchise under public scrutiny needs to model. For a city that has waited decades for credible, durable progress, the bar cannot be lowered. If Chayka’s history cannot be reconciled with Toronto’s standards, the prudent move is to walk away now. To Leafs Nation and Rogers’ shareholders: The next steps must be public, precise, and principled. Demand a governance blueprint, a robust ethics policy, and a plan that proves results, not resumes. Only then can trust, not headlines, guide Toronto’s hockey future.

SMALL TOWN FEEL
I am pretty upset at all the public funding that goes into events that benefit a few, but screw the rest. Why should I contribute to the Toronto economy when I receive nothing in return? My roads do not get spruced up to impress big shots from around the world. We do not give money to restaurants and business who cry every five minutes for handouts like you do. FIFA should know that we have pretty good soccer fields here in Delhi. Maybe you can come here and give us small towns money for a change?
