ROGERS NEEDS A JOLT
Re “Hockey Night in Canada Punjabi’s end after 18 years ‘shocking’ to community” (Sobia Moman, Aug. 16): So, Rogers cancels another Hockey Night in Canada show — maybe they need a reminder of fan power like Bud Light fans showed Budweiser, so if enough people dropped Rogers products, do you think they would get the message?

(But Canadians have so few options so we are almost beholden to them)

BE PREPARED
As Canadians continue facing major challenges, including environmental disasters and pressures on public services, one message remains clear: Responding after a crisis is far more costly than preparing before one. The COVID-19 pandemic cost Canada more than $624 billion. That experience should remind us that prevention is not an unnecessary expense — it is responsible planning. Investing $125 million over five years in the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) would support the 100 Days Mission, which works to develop vaccines against emerging pandemic threats before they become worldwide emergencies. Canada has learned the cost of waiting. Now is the time to invest before the next crisis arrives.

E-DANGER
The abundance of e-bikes and e-scooters on our streets is dangerous to both the cyclists and pedestrians. When I’m driving, I see them weaving carelessly through traffic. When I’m jogging or walking, I see them whiz by me recklessly. Many aren’t wearing helmets. The carnage will continue until our police crack down on the lawlessness.
