The game has already been launched on September 5, 2024, in an early-access version, but everyone is waiting for its full launch on September 9. To replicate the success of its predecessor, the developers might have taken inspiration from a popular first-person shooter of 2016 as well.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Is Following the Foot Steps of Doom

Space Marine of 2011 was one of the most popular titles of all time. Naturally, there are huge expectations regarding its sequel as well, to carry the legacy of the franchise forward.

That is why, not only Warhammer 40K, Space Marine 2 has taken huge inspiration from another popular franchise, Doom. The 2016 game of this series had a unique aspect called Glory kills, which we might see in the upcoming title.

This is what the Chief Creative Officer of Saber Interactive, Tim Willits, had to say about the development team when he first came into the company (via GamesBeat):

It was awesome. They said, “We played Doom 2016, the glory kills were awesome! Let’s do more of that.”

Now, what are Glory kills? So basically these are extremely violent and gruesome deaths of monsters and other players, as seen in Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal. In single-player campaigns, Glory kills would increase the amount of health dropped from monsters. These types of kills are mostly done when monsters or players take a critical amount of damage or are stunned by special attacks.

One of the prime reasons for the huge success of Space Marine was Captain Deemtrian Titus. The main protagonist of the game, Titus was firstborn captain and commander of the Ultramarines 2nd Company and later a Primaris Marine Lieutenant.

He fought for the Imperium of Man for more than 200 Terran years, and that is why he is considered to be one of the greatest heroes of the Ultramarines. That is why we are going to see Titus once again in the upcoming title as well. Willits confirmed this in an interview with WCCF TECH:

Definitely. Our storyline with Titus

Actually Willits spent most of his career at id Software, which is famous for making titles like Doom, Quake, and many more. He came to Saber 2019 and was stunned to see the popularity of that 2016 FPS title there.

He also stated that he used to talk about the original Space Marine as well. So, it was all in his veins from the very beginning to launch the sequel of a popular title after over two decades.
