TSG Hoffenheim’s struggles continued on Saturday as the Sinsheim outfit suffered a disappointing 2-3 home defeat to Hamburger SV at the SNP Arena.

The visitors took an early lead, with Yussuf Poulsen putting HSV ahead after 12 minutes by converting the rebound after the ball had struck the post.

Hoffenheim grew into the game as the first half progressed, and Bambasé Conté thought he had equalised with a mazy run and finish just before the break. However, the goal was ruled out after Tim Lemperle was adjudged to have committed a foul in the build-up.

The hosts did find an equaliser before half-time, though, as Sebastiaan Bornauw turned the ball into his own net under pressure from Fisnik Asllani to send the teams into the break at 1-1.

Conté got his goal in the second half, firing in off the post in the 52nd minute to put Hoffenheim ahead 2-1 after another stunning run.

However, the game turned in HSV’s favour when Hoffenheim were reduced to 10 men in the 65th minute. Bernardo received his second yellow card for a foul on David Møller Wolfe and was sent off.

Otto Stange thought he had found the equaliser for HSV in the 80th minute, but his goal was ruled out for a foul.

The visitors continued to push and eventually drew level a few minutes later, with Terem Moffi scoring his first goal for the North German side with a header.

Just as it looked as though the points would be shared, Miro Muheim popped up in stoppage time with a stunning volley to seal a 3-2 victory for HSV.

The win, HSV’s second in a row, lifts Merlin Polzin’s side to 11th in the table. Hoffenheim, meanwhile, have slipped into the relegation zone and sit 17th with just three points.
