Kylie Kelce is making sure a royal invitation follows the right etiquette this time. After casually inviting Kate Middleton onto her podcast while using an outdated title, Kylie learned that the wording mattered more than she realized.

The mom of four has now apologized, promised to address Kate properly going forward, and even admitted she may need to clean up her famously colorful language if the Princess of Wales ever actually accepts her invitation.

Kylie Kelce Realized Her Kate Invitation Came With A Title Problem

The mix-up happened when Kylie Kelce invited Kate to appear on the “Not Gonna Lie” podcast during the September 24 episode.

The media personality referred to her as “Princess Kate, Duchess of Cambridge” while pitching a conversation about field hockey and motherhood.

“Princess Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, if you ever wanted to come on and chitchat about some field hockey and maybe kids. I don’t know. We got a couple things in common,” Kylie said.

The problem was that Kate has not held the Duchess of Cambridge title since 2022. She became Catherine, Princess of Wales after Prince William became the Prince of Wales and King Charles ascended the throne following Queen Elizabeth II’s death.

Before that change, the 44-year-old had been known publicly as the Duchess of Cambridge since her 2011 wedding to William.

Kylie Apologized And Promised To Address The Princess Correctly

Kylie Kelce addressed the mistake on Thursday’s episode of the podcast, explaining that she genuinely did not realize using “Princess Kate” was considered offensive.

“I love learning, so I was unaware that calling Princess Catherine Princess Kate was offensive,” she said, adding, “I didn’t know that. Now I know that. Now I will proceed accordingly.”

The apology extended beyond correcting the title. Kylie said she wanted to address people in ways that made them feel respected before turning directly to Kate.

She stated, “Princess Catherine or the Princess of Wales, I apologize. I will get that sorted immediately starting now.”

Getting Kate onto the podcast would also require Kylie to adjust another part of her usual style: the frequent swearing that has become part of her candid podcast persona.

During Thursday’s episode, the 34-year-old read a listener’s comment claiming Kate “is too refined and beautiful to be subjected to [Kylie’s] cursing.” The listener added, “You’ll need to clean up your act,” a suggestion Kylie agreed with.

Kylie noted that she would never use an expletive in front of Kate, despite admitting that she “loves curse words.”

She also said she wanted the conversation to cover their shared field-hockey background, Kate’s cancer battle, and other subjects.

Still, Kylie acknowledged the practical problem with her invitation. “Do I think she has time to hop on this podcast? No, I do not,” she admitted, adding, “I don’t think that.”

Kylie And Kate’s Shared Sporting Connection Started The Conversation

The connection between Kylie Kelce and Kate took another turn when the Princess of Wales was seen playing shinty during a September visit to Scotland.

As The Blast reported, Kylie, who coaches field hockey, reacted to the footage on her podcast, focusing on Kate’s sporting ability rather than her royal status.

She praised the royal’s performance and pointed out that the Scottish sport had similarities to field hockey.

She also emphasized that Kate had played field hockey herself, giving Kylie another reason to see common ground between them.

That sporting connection became the starting point for Kelce’s podcast pitch. She also pointed to their shared experience as mothers and the connection their husbands created.

Kylie’s Royal Connection Began Before Her Kate Invitation

Kylie Kelce’s interest in bringing a royal onto her podcast came after her family had already connected with the British royal family through her husband, Jason Kelce, and brother-in-law, Travis Kelce.

As CBS News reported in July, Prince William made a surprise appearance on the brothers’ “New Heights” podcast, creating an unexpected crossover between the Kelces and the royals.

William joined Jason and Travis for a conversation that touched on soccer, the World Cup and the growing relationship between American football and the United Kingdom. The appearance came just hours before Travis’s wedding to Taylor Swift.

The royal connection was not entirely new. William, along with Prince George and Princess Charlotte, had already met Jason and Travis in 2024 when the royals attended Swift’s Eras Tour concert at Wembley Stadium in London.

Travis later recalled how nervous he and Jason had been about meeting the royal family. Jason also spoke about meeting Charlotte, noting that, as a father of four daughters, that encounter stood out to him.
