Niko Kovač has poured cold water on rumours regarding doubts over Fábio Silva's future as a Borussia Dortmund player.

Silva, who recently commented on his limited playing time and a possible desire to leave BVB, has a clear role in Kovač's eyes.

“He knows his role in the team. Serhou Guirassy is our number one striker. He is the challenger," said Kovač, when posed the question by BILD.

Silva scored the consolation goal in Dortmund's 2-1 Supercup loss to Bayern Munich, replacing Guirassy as a 63rd-minute substitute.

However, the Portuguese player is considered a potential sale candidate, with Dortmund seeking €20million for the striker.

Recently, clubs from Spain's La Liga and the Turkish Süper Lig have shown particular interest in the 24-year-old.
