Kingston youth, 15, dies after struck by van on rural road

A 15-year-old Kingston youth was killed Saturday when he was struck by a truck while walking on Rosedale Road, in South Frontenac Township.

Provincial police were called to the scene near the village of Sydenham, about 25 km north of Kingston, just after 5:30 p.m.

OPP said a “commercial express van” struck the pedestrian, who was walking in the same direction.

The victim was pronounced deceased by paramedics at the scene. A second pedestrian received minor injuries and was transported to hospital, police said.

The driver of the van, 57, spoke to investigators at the scene.

Officers detected alcohol on his breath and he submitted to a roadside breath test.

The driver registered “warning” level and his licence was suspended for three days.

The vehicle was towed from the scene for examination.

Frontenac OPP is asking for public assistance in providing any witness information, as well as dash camera footage, or doorbell camera views of the collision.
