Kevin James Hints The King of Queens Reboot: But These 5 Shows Prove It’s a Bad Idea

1 week ago 7

While we think that we are being served the same old Hollywood movies in a new package, let’s take a look back at the sitcoms. With Prison Break being greenlit by Hulu,  two of the most iconic names from comedy clubs have hinted at the reboot of their classic series.

The remake in question is The King of Queens, which was recently hinted at by Kevin James, best known for Grown Ups and Paul Blart: Mall Cop. His co-star, Leah Remini, joined him in the news. This news brings us to one question: Is it the best thing since sliced bread?

We have been continually hit by reboots of age-old sitcoms. Some of them struck us with old nostalgia, but most did not meet our expectations.

Kevin James and Leah Remini Leave Reboot Hints for The King of Queens Fans

Since the cast of The King of Queens celebrated their 27th anniversary on September 21, the two leads have been playing with the heightened emotions of their fans. Taking to Instagram, Remini posted a photo of herself along with James as well as the late actor Jerry Stiller.

For those unversed, Stiller played the character of Remini’s Carrie Heffernan’s father, Arthur Spooner. The 55-year-old actress had a persiflage caption along with an intriguing photo.

Soon followed other posts in which Remini wrote, “Doug Heffernan is always running scared from Carrie! LOL. 27 years of The King of Queens! We love our fans!”

Similarly, in a chucklesome video in which James introduces his wife Steffiana de la Cruz to her on-screen counterpart, Remini writes,

The audacity…right in front of me! Thank you for 27 years of King of Queens! We are so grateful for all the love!

Surprisingly, even James took to the internet expressing his respect for the late actor, Stiller. In an Instagram post, he wrote, “Miss this man so much. Can you believe it’s been over 27 years since King of Queens premiered? Love you all, thank you so much for watching.

This sparked hopes among the fans who wished for the show to air again. “This is the only show I wish would come back with new episodes 18 years later. Love this show!!!,” one fan expressed on Instagram.

Another such comment read, “Please bring the King of queens back. Best show ever! I have watched every episode and still watch them.”

While these were all just playful teases, no official announcement has been made yet about a reboot of The King of Queens

These Failed Sitcom Reboots Prove The King of Queens Reboot Will Fail

While we hope a classic sitcom will return to TV screens, the following sitcoms prove that not every story needs to be revived after ages.

  • Gossip Girl
  • That 90’s show
  • And Just Like That (Sex and the City)
  • The Odd Couple
  • Wizards Beyond Waverly Place

Bringing out romantic pairings, Gossip Girl was originally introduced back in 2007 with a really intriguing ensemble. The series was filled with current highly appreciated Hollywood names, such as Blake Lively, who we all know from her latest controversial hit movie, It Ends With Us.

Besides her, the series showcased the talents of Leighton Meester and the late Michelle Trachtenberg. The males who led the series were Chace Crawford, from The Boys, as well as Penn Badgley, who is still stealing hearts in Netflix’s You

A reboot was later put in the works in 2021, which ran for just 2 seasons, in contrast to its predecessor, which had 6 seasons. The reboot even failed to impress the audience, getting some really terrible ratings, following which, and some pitfalls, it was shelved.

A similar fate was met by the reboot of Sex and the City, And Just Like That…It can be guessed that when it was about the leads’ relationship struggles back when they were in their 20s and 30s, it was relatable to most of the viewers. However, the reboot only made the fans feel sorry for them as the characters were stuck in their younger years.

The Odd Couple, That ’90s Show, and the latest Wizards Beyond Waverly Place had a startling cast. But even with names such as Selena Gomez, Matthew Perry, and Debra Jo Rupp, the old environment felt just like the episodes were being repeated with a few new touch-ups.
