As The Multiverse Saga marches towards its end with Avengers: Secret Wars, the rumor mill has reported that the MCU might be looking to dive into its horror and supernatural characters after it wraps up its current saga. This has been cited as the reason by the Blade project is taking so much time to get off the ground, given that Marvel Studios allegedly wants the character to be the face of this upcoming saga.

There are some learnings from the Multiverse Saga that the MCU should carry over into the Supernatural Saga. There are also some very fun projects that can make their way into this phase of the MCU. However, newly established characters who are supposed to get their chance to be in the spotlight might fall through the cracks, such that the focus shifts towards other characters that are more horror-oriented in the MCU.

Marvel needs to follow its blueprint set in Infinity Saga, rather than going the route of The Multiverse Saga

One of the biggest blunders that the MCU made with The Multiverse Saga, was the lack of central characters to carry the narrative from one phase to another. This caused the franchise to feel lackluster and all over the place, despite introducing some of the most interesting characters that Marvel had in its pocket. This means, that along with Blade, there need to be two other characters that could make the new ‘trinity’ of the MCU, leading the charge in the Supernatural Saga.

A slew of such characters are already part of the MCU, introduced in the Werewolf by Night special presentation, along with shows like Moon Knight and Iron Fist. However, fans are very keen on seeing Elizabeth Olsen‘s Scarlet Witch return to the MCU. Whether the character returns in Agatha All Along or Secret Wars, putting the focus on the character might help win back fans who have been alienated by The Multiverse Saga.

Using the Scarlet Witch, along with Blade and perhaps Ghost Rider, might deliver the perfect trio of characters that fans will be keen to follow. While Scarlet Witch rounds up the newly introduced mutant side of the MCU, Blade could tie the street-level characters like Daredevil and Moon Knight into the bigger story. Ghost Rider could introduce a character who is the perfect choice for the big bad of MCU’s Supernatural Saga: Mephistopheles.

How would the Supernatural Saga fit in all the current characters that are introduced in the MCU?

Moon Knight, Shang-Chi, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, and Dane Whitman can all fit into the Supernatural Saga of the MCU pretty well. However, there seem to be some characters that won’t slot in so easily into The Supernatural Space. Marvel has just introduced the Mutants and the Fantastic Four into the MCU, and following them through their adventures would be a priority post-Avengers: Secret Wars.

It is possible that characters like Magik bring in the mutants to the supernatural side of things, while the Fantastic Four could have independent adventures and assist the principal characters of the story when combatting bigger threats. It remains to be seen how characters like Captain America and The Hulk fair after Secret Wars, but given that Sony has already introduced Knull into the common multiverse that it shares with Marvel, the character could keep some characters busy while working in tandem with Mephistopheles.

Marvel could stave off a bunch of projects for after Avengers: Secret Wars

There are a lot of projects that Marvel would love to complete, given the amount of fan investment that has gone into those stories. Marvel Studios could stave off stories like Moon Knight Season 2, Doctor Strange 3, and even the Blade project for later.

Until then, the focus can be solely on fleshing out and wrapping up the Multiverse Saga, while the supernatural aspects of the universe take a back seat (except for whatever parts are necessary to keep the Multiverse Saga going).

This allows the franchise a dedicated time in its history to introduce characters like Ghost Rider, Black Knight, and Captain Britain. Characters like Clea, Hercules, and Shang Chi could also be expanded on in this part of the franchise, allowing them to not be convoluted into a story that already seems to have too many characters with too many loose threads.

Mephistopheles and Knull could create a very interesting storyline for the Avengers, the seeds of which have been set through the Multiverse Saga. Characters like Spider-Man and Wolverine, who are going to be important parts of the MCU going forward, have all had run-ins with the supernatural in the comics, which could be translated into the MCU.

Avengers: Secret Wars will hit theaters on May 7, 2027.
