Gypsy Rose Blanchard reportedly sent Ken Urker a simple “Happy Birthday” message on October 1. When no reply came, the silence became the first sign that something was terribly wrong. Urker, Blanchard’s longtime partner and the father of her daughter, was later found unresponsive inside his Raceland, Louisiana, home. He died on the same day he turned 34.

According to PEOPLE, Blanchard reached out to Urker with a birthday text earlier that day but received no response. What began as a celebratory message took on a heartbreaking meaning after relatives went to check on him.

The report does not state how much time passed between Blanchard sending the text and Urker being discovered. However, authorities confirmed that they were called to a Raceland residence at approximately 6:15 p.m. on October 1.

Urker was found dead when law enforcement arrived, according to a statement attributed to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Blanchard’s brother, Dylan, and his wife reportedly went to Urker’s home after he failed to answer the birthday message. The couple had planned to take Urker to dinner, but they instead found him unresponsive inside the property.

Urker’s sister, Autumn, later confirmed his death during a TikTok livestream. She also revealed that the last words he said to her were, “I love you.”

Ken Urker Died On His 34th Birthday

The circumstances surrounding Urker’s death are especially devastating because he died on his 34th birthday. Initial reports created some confusion about his age, with some outlets listing him as 33. However, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office identified him as 34, and PEOPLE also reported that he died on the day he turned 34.

News of Urker’s death quickly spread online because of his highly publicized relationship with Blanchard. However, the family’s loss extends far beyond their television appearances and social media presence. Urker leaves behind a young daughter who had not yet reached her second birthday.

Authorities Are Still Investigating His Death

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that its investigation into Urker’s death remains ongoing. “We responded to a residence in Raceland today after receiving a call at 6:15 p.m.,” the department said, according to The U.S. Sun. “Kenan Urker, 34, was found dead upon arrival. At this time, we are continuing the death investigation.”

Blanchard has publicly claimed that Urker died from an overdose, telling PEOPLE that she did not know whether it was intentional. However, authorities have not publicly confirmed an official cause or manner of death. Until the investigation and any necessary toxicology testing are completed, Blanchard’s account should not be treated as an official medical determination.

No evidence has been released indicating foul play, and law enforcement has not announced any arrests or criminal charges connected to the death.

Blanchard and Urker first connected while she was serving a 10-year prison sentence for her role in the 2015 murder of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard.

Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after admitting that she helped plan the killing with her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, who fatally stabbed Dee Dee inside their Missouri home. Godejohn was later convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.

The case attracted national attention after it was revealed that Blanchard had allegedly endured years of medical abuse at the hands of her mother. Dee Dee reportedly convinced doctors and others that her daughter suffered from numerous serious illnesses, forcing her to use a wheelchair and undergo unnecessary medical treatments. Blanchard was granted parole after serving more than eight years and was released in December 2023.

Urker began corresponding with Blanchard after watching the HBO documentary “Mommy Dead and Dearest,” which explored the abuse and Dee Dee’s killing. The pair developed a relationship and became engaged during a prison visit in 2018, but they later separated.

Following Blanchard’s release and the end of her marriage to Ryan Anderson, she and Urker reconnected in April 2024. They welcomed their daughter, Aurora Raina Urker, in December of that year.
