Keanu Reeves’ Next Sci-Fi Movie Is Inspired by Tom Cruise’s Most Underrated Thriller

Keanu Reeves is once again stepping into the world of sci-fi after giving us an epic franchise like The Matrix. His upcoming feature is already drawing comparisons to Tom Cruise’s Edge of Tomorrow, and is titled Shiver (via The Hollywood Reporter).

So Reeves is returning to the genre that defined his legacy, and the film will be more of a mix of Edge of Tomorrow and The Shallows. Now, let’s look at everything we know about Shiver, and whether it will finally break the actor’s recent streak of flops!

Everything We Know About Keanu Reeves’ Upcoming Sci-Fi

Shiver brings together a powerhouse creative team who have a shared love for high-concept action films and sci-fi. Tim Miller (via THR), who’s best known for Deadpool and Terminator: Dark Fate, will be directing the Keanu Reeves starrer, so we can look forward to some adrenaline-pumping action and sleek storytelling. 

Ian Shorr will serve as a screenwriter, and he’s known for creating stories with themes of time, technology, and human psychology. Some of his most impressive works are Infinite and Office Uprising. The film’s producers are just as impressive, and include renowned names like Matthew Vaughn and Aaron Ryder. 

Shiver will follow a smuggler who will find himself in a deadly double-cross while working in the Caribbean Sea, where he’ll be surrounded by bodies, sharks, mercenaries, and more. But the most haunting aspect is the time loop part, where he’ll have to face these circumstances again and again, trying his best to survive.

It’s no secret that Keanu Reeves’ last outing in sci-fi, i.e., The Matrix Resurrections, didn’t exactly live up to our expectations. Despite the nostalgia factor, the film barely scratched the potential and only received modest reviews. 

Then Reeves doubled down on his strength with John Wick: Chapter 4 and proved his box office magic isn’t gone. Shortly before this period, and even after it, he has been dabbling in some voice acting, short films, cameos, etc. But his last two films, Ballerina and Good Fortune, were again a bit underwhelming.
