When ESPN hired Katie Feeney last summer to post digital short-form content across its platforms, the evolution of sports storytelling took a giant leap. Feeney is a sports and lifestyle creator with 7.6 million TikTok followers and another 2.4 million combined on Instagram and Snapchat. In 2022, while she was still in college, the Washington Commanders hired the Maryland native as a social media correspondent, believed to be a first-of-its-kind role for an NFL team. Her all-access posts at Commanders training camp, for example, gave fans unique insight. Since joining ESPN, Feeney has covered events like the World Cup and Wimbledon, been featured on the SportsCenter Snapchat channel, and contributed to shows such as Sunday NFL Countdown, Monday Night Countdown, and College GameDay. “Part of being a creator is you have to constantly reinvent yourself,” Feeney, who also covered the Biden White House for a time, told the Hollywood Reporter. “And what used to work might not work now.”
