The death of Presley Gerber has left his family facing a painful new chapter, with his younger sister Kaia Gerber now at the center of their concern.

Presley, 27, died last Sunday at a Santa Monica recovery facility in what authorities are investigating as a suspected overdose, following years of struggles with addiction that reportedly began during his teenage years.

A family source cited by the Daily Mail said they “wanted to make sure that Kaia never encountered the same issues that Presley did, so they kept a close eye on her.”

The source claimed Kaia is now finding it difficult to accept that her brother is gone, describing the loss as something that has yet to fully “sink in.”

The grieving model is reportedly struggling to process the death of the brother she often described as her “best friend,” and her current state has left her loved ones “worried.”

The family source said, “Kaia is very sad; it’s hard for her to believe her brother is gone forever, it’s not sinking in just yet, it’s a lot to digest, understandably.”

“Everyone in the family is worried about Kaia,” the insider continued, noting that “they fear she won’t be able to handle this, but she has a good network around her. She has old friends that are making her feel better.”

However, according to the family source, Kaia has also put her professional commitments on hold while she grieves the death of her brother.

They noted that the model had a very busy schedule, with loads of work lined up. But with Presley’s death, she has decided to put it all on hold.

Kaia Gerber Feels ‘Depressed’ As Drugs ‘Took Presley Away From Her’ After Her Past Struggle With An Ex-Boyfriend

The family source, as cited by the Daily Mail, shared that Kaia feels “like she can’t get away from this drug stuff and it makes her depressed.”

“She hates drugs and doesn’t touch them and is so sad they took Presley away from her. She and Presley were best friends,” the insider added.

They noted that her brother’s passing has taken Kaia back to a difficult period in her life in late 2019, when she was dating Pete Davidson.

Kaia was reportedly “instantly smitten” with Davidson because of his charisma and personality, but the relationship became difficult amid his alleged drug use at the time.

“She already went through this before with Pete, whom she dated for a while,” the source stated. “Kaia had a very hard time with Pete.”

The situation with Davidson is said to have prompted Cindy and Rande to travel to New York to intervene. “When Pete flipped out on her, both her parents stepped in. They flew to NYC to meet with them, and they said, ‘No way,'” the source claimed.

The parents allegedly told Kaia, “Come home now,” making her walk away from Pete because of his history with drugs and all his rehab visits, while the source described Cindy as “a very tough mama bear.”

Leaving New York Helped The Young Model Regain Her Balance

The source said the pressures of entering the modeling world in New York affected both Kaia and Presley, who were young Malibu teenagers experiencing fame in a new environment.

“Kaia and Presley were seriously decent, nice kids from Malibu who were getting their first taste of fame at the time,” the insider noted. “They were new models in New York City, and everyone thought they were amazing. They were just learning the ropes, though, and were not used to the ugly side of New York City.”

After Kaia ended her relationship with Davidson, she reportedly left New York and spent time with her parents in Los Angeles.

“I seriously think Kaia needed a time out,” the family source told the Daily Mail. “She totally grounded herself by fostering dogs, and that is when she started to read books like crazy. She healed herself.”

Presley also eventually left New York for Los Angeles around the same period, with the siblings appearing to have returned to the West Coast.

Her “Palm Royale” co-star and longtime family friend Laura Dern was recently seen dropping off flowers at her home. She has also reportedly received visits from Hollywood power couple George Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, as she grieves the passing of her brother.

Meanwhile, Presley’s tragic death remains under investigation. Santa Monica police are treating it as a suspected overdose, while the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has deferred determining the official cause and manner of death pending toxicology results.

Detectives have said there is currently no indication of foul play but are investigating the source of the substances involved.
