Julian Schuster on Freiburg's cruel Pokal exit: “It is tough to take"

Freiburg were cruelly dumped out of Germany's premier cup competition in extra-time tonight.

Much to the disappointment of Julian Schuster, SC Freiburg's DFB-Pokal dreams came to a halt after a narrow 2-1 semi-final defeat to VfB Stuttgart at the MHP Arena tonight.

“It is tough to take that our DFB-Pokal run ends in such fashion," said the Freiburg head coach after the game, but chose to focus on the positive elements from the evening.

“I saw this as the next step in our development, that we were able to produce the performance we did against this opposition and in this stadium.

“This evening will only make us stronger! It’s allowed to hurt, but we will then approach our coming challenges with even more confidence and determination,” he added. 

The Breisgauers will now have to recuperate and recharge before heading north to face Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga this Sunday – kick-off is at 17:30 CET.
