Lies of P, the action RPG title from Neowiz Games and Round8 Studio is one of the best games that launched in 2023 and was a big surprise. The Pinocchio-themed Soulslike was heavily liked and garnered huge praise from fans and critics alike.

Soon after the game’s success, developer Neowiz Games revealed in January this year that it is working on a sequel. While it is not known yet when the sequel could launch, it seems like that the game could be a open world title, thanks to a job listing.

Lies of P Sequel Could Be Going Open World

Lies of P was praised for its thrilling combat, challenging difficulty even for seasoned Souls players, unique game setting, character and level design, and more. Neowiz Games soon confirmed a DLC, which is expected to launch later this year, and a sequel, which is supposedly currently under development.

However, not much is known about the sequel yet and what it could bring for gamers but it seems like the sequel will be open-world. As per a job listing on the developer’s website for Field Level Designer, the game could have open-world level design.

This hiring is specifically for Lies of P and the developer wants someone who is “extensively” experienced with open-world games. The key points of the position is action creation, tool development, mini-game development, and open-world experience.

It is to be noted that the listing is originally in Korean and is translated in English, and it may be wrong in some parts but it is clear that the developer may be considering open-world level design. However, it can not be said if the game will be full open-world or would only have open levels.

Why Is Neowiz Considering This Change in the Sequel?

It is no secret that Lies of P is heavily inspired by Bloodborne and other FromSoftware Souls games. Given the amount of success FromSoftware has seen with Elden Ring and its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, Neowiz too may be eyeing that and therefore, planning to make this move.

Fans think that going open world may be a bad idea but it is understandable. One fan said that the Land of OZ is ‘really big’ and it would make sense to be open. Another fan added, “Lies of P felt a little too linear so having something more like Dark Souls 1 would be nice.”

But it will be a huge step as the first game was linear with corridor-like levels, and it garnered the praise it did because of that. As for the setting of the sequel, according to the ending of the game, it is expected to take place in the world of The Wizard of Oz.

Not much is known about the sequel as of now but it is seemingly being built using Unreal Engine 5 and the developer has said that it will invest more in single player games so the ambitious change to going open could be because of that.

What are your thoughts about this? Would you like if the sequel is open world? Let us know in the comments!
