The spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry said the United States will inevitably “pay the price” for the war it created “under the influence” of a Zionist regime.

“This is not war management. Repeated war crimes and boasting about them are merely attempts to escape a disaster they created under the influence of the Zionist regime, and they will inevitably pay the price,” Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday, noting Iran hasn’t asked to restart talks with the United States to end the war.

This comes as Mike Waltz, the American ambassador to the United Nations, said in a weekend interview that U.S. President Donald Trump is allowing talks with Iran to develop after attacks were paused over the weekend.

Iran redirecting ships making ‘illegal’ passage through Strait of Hormuz

According to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, Tehran is redirecting ships that are attempting to cross the southern Strait of Hormuz in what it described as an “illegal and unsafe route.”

IRIB reported that “six vessels allegedly violated regulations by switching off their navigation and positioning systems,” and that they “attempted to pass through an illegal and unsafe route south of the Strait of Hormuz,” with the encouragement of the American military, per CNN.

One of the ships suffered “an incident,” according to an IRIB source, without elaborating or assigning responsibility. The source also stated that other vessels were directed by Iran back into the Persian Gulf.

IRIB reported on Sunday that at least six ships were “forced to drop anchor and accept maritime order” following repeated warnings from Iranian forces.

Waltz says Trump allowing Iran talks to develop after pausing strikes

Mike Waltz, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said in an interview with NBC News over the weekend that President Trump is allowing talks with Iran to develop as attacks in the Middle East are paused.

“What the president is doing right now, as we’ve seen all along, is giving some talks some space. Talks are ongoing. They’re happening at every level, from the more technical aspect of it all the way to the highest levels,” Waltz said on NBC’s Meet the Press program, per CNN.

However, Waltz also reiterated that the U.S. military is “locked and loaded” and Trump is “keeping all options on the table.”

More than 600 U.S. troops wounded in Iran war: Pentagon

More than 600 American military members have been wounded since the beginning of the Iran war in February, according to Pentagon statistics.

Over the weekend, the Pentagon’s Defence Casualty Analysis System was updated, showing the number of service members killed and injured during Operation Epic Fury.

The Pentagon’s website reported that four U.S. service members were killed and 207 were wounded in action under the category “Overseas Operations,” which began July 7,  although it does not explicitly state that those casualties resulted from fighting with Iran.

In a separate category, it reported that 14 U.S. service members were killed and 417 were wounded during Operation Epic Fury, which began Feb. 28. The two categories together list 624 military members who have been wounded since the war began.

The reason for the distinction between the two sets of casualty figures was not immediately clear, per UPI.

The Pentagon update came after reports last week that the Pentagon’s Defence Casualty Analysis System revised the death toll of U.S. service members killed in fighting with Iran from 18 to 14 and the number wounded from 482 to 420, along with other discrepancies.

This change prompted Democrats to call on the Pentagon for a full accounting.

Iran says talks with U.S. not ‘war management’

Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry, said on Monday that the country hasn’t asked to restart talks with the United States to end the war.

“This is not war management. Repeated war crimes and boasting about them are merely attempts to escape a disaster they created under the influence of the Zionist regime, and they will inevitably pay the price,” Baghaei told reporters, per Al Jazeera.

Tensions between the two countries have intensified after the U.S. resumed attacks, with Iran retaliating with attacks on American military facilities and equipment in countries in the Middle East.
