Floor-to-ceiling installations, seamless showers and fully clad features create a calm, considered atmosphere, while using a single material across several planes minimizes visual interruptions. The result feels polished rather than overly decorated.

Large-format porcelain and slabs are driving much of this shift. Their scale delivers an uninterrupted appearance, with fewer grout joints to break up the surface. Beyond looking sleek, reduced grout makes routine maintenance easier and limits areas prone to discolouration.

Oversized styles can also work beautifully in compact spaces. While many homeowners assume a petite bathroom requires small tile, generous proportions often have the opposite effect, making tight quarters appear more open and less busy.

Scale does require skill. Subfloor preparation, layout and alignment must be carefully considered, and Kovacevic recommends hiring an installer experienced with substantial formats. Exact placement can mean the difference between a refined result, and one disrupted by awkward cuts or poorly positioned seams.

A warmer outlook

Cool grey is gradually giving way to a softer spectrum of warm white, sand, mushroom, taupe and clay. These earthy tones bring comfort without sacrificing sophistication and pair naturally with wood vanities, brushed metals and sculptural fixtures.

Natural stone-inspired porcelain is also gaining momentum, offering the elegance of marble, limestone or travertine with fewer maintenance demands. Advances in digital printing capture nuanced veining, subtle markings and tonal depth with striking accuracy. Unlike many genuine stones, porcelain is highly resistant to moisture, stains and everyday wear and typically does not require sealing.

For Kovacevic, that balance of beauty and practicality explains its lasting appeal. “Homeowners increasingly want surfaces that look elevated without adding another demanding chore to their routines,” she explains.

Texture is bringing another layer of personality to the room. Fluted and ribbed profiles cast gentle shadows across shower niches, vanity walls and other focal points, creating movement without the need for vivid colour or elaborate pattern.
