Actor John Boyega, best known as Finn in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy, is opening up about his personal life. In a recent interview, he was asked about the ring on his left hand. The “Attack the Block” actor then revealed the shocking news. Not only did he quietly get married two years ago, but he is also getting ready to welcome a child.

John Boyega Drops Candid Details About His Personal Life

Although he is now a household name for his roles in “Pacific Rim: Uprising” and “The Woman King,” Boyega suffered a tragic loss when he was only eight years old. At the time, his friend Damilola Taylor, 10, was stabbed and killed. In the opening scene of a new BBC Two documentary about the killing, Boyega said, “Speaking about it could possibly help. I haven’t revisited this in a long time. Yeah, my heart is just beating.”

In November 2000, Damilola was stabbed in the leg and left to die in a stairwell. He was attacked as he walked home from an after-school club at Peckham library in South London. The case shocked the nation, not only because the victim was so young, but because the suspects were also children. Boyega was one of the last people to see Damilola alive. Now, he is ready to talk about that day and how his tragic childhood experience will shape him as a father.

In an interview with The Guardian about the documentary, published on October 4, Boyega didn’t give any details about his wife, but he did say, “I’ve been married for coming up to two years now.” He didn’t share many details about the wedding, but did note that they had a small ceremony.

When the interviewer expressed surprise that he didn’t have a large, traditional Nigerian wedding ceremony, Boyega continued,  “I would love to have a wedding celebration. We both like the idea of celebrating something established, rather than celebrating the entry. And by then, we’ll have to shut Nigeria down!”

Boyega Reveals That He Has ‘A Baby Cooking’

Boyega revealed that he’s not only married, but also expecting a child. “My baby’s on the way. We got a baby cooking,” he said, adding that he also has a young stepson. “So, you know, my life is completely, completely fulfilled in terms of family. It’s been so nice with the timing,” he added.

When speaking about fatherhood, Boyega continued, “Us being parents is funny! I just want to make sure I’m present, I’m consistent, and full of love.”

The increased focus on family explains why he has taken a step back from the spotlight. “I’ve tried to as much as possible – especially following periods when I’ve worked a lot – to de-centre my career,” he said. “There have been certain moments when I’ve known that this is a time for family. Y’know, there’s stuff to do.”

Will John Boyega Ever Return To ‘Star Wars’?

Just last week, Jon Watts was announced to be directing the first film in Simon Kinberg’s trilogy. That trilogy is believed to be the next continuation of the Skywalker Saga. Little is known about the project, although Daisy Ridley is expected to reprise her role as Rey. It remains to be seen if Finn will also return.

At Megacon Orlando, held in March 2026, John Boyega told fans he had spoken with Lucasfilm boss Dave Filoni, who took over after Kathleen Kennedy‘s exit. When a fan told Boyega to “get Dave on the photo,” the actor answered, “I actually have, actually,” as per Variety.

Boyega first appeared as Finn in 2015’s “The Force Awakens.” He later reprised his role in 2017’s “The Last Jedi,” and 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.” However, he has been vocal about his grievances with the franchise.

Boyega Put Disney On Blast: ‘I’ll Say It Straight Up’

In 2020, less than a year after 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker” hit theaters, Boyega told GQ, “What I would say to Disney is do not bring out a Black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side. It’s not good. I’ll say it straight up.”

“You guys knew what to do with Daisy Ridley, you knew what to do with Adam Driver,” Boyega continued. “But when it came to Kelly Marie Tran, when it came to John Boyega, you know f-ck all. So what do you want me to say? What they want you to say is, ‘I enjoyed being a part of it. It was a great experience…’ Nah, nah, nah. I’ll take that deal when it’s a great experience. They gave all the nuance to Adam Driver, all the nuance to Daisy Ridley. Let’s be honest. Daisy knows this. Adam knows this. Everybody knows. I’m not exposing anything.”

A few years later, in 2022, Boyega told SiriusXM, “At this point I’m cool off it,” when asked about taking another trip to a galaxy far, far away.
