Impaired driver who crashed into off ramp registers four times legal limit

An Ottawa motorist registered nearly four times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood following a single-vehicle crash on a Highway 417 off ramp.

Members Ontario Provincial Police’s Ottawa detachment responded to the accident scene on the Highway 417 off ramp at Riverside Drive at 5 a.m. on Dec. 31.

Officers noted the driver had the smell of alcohol on his breath, and administered a test with a handheld screening device. He was later taken to the Ottawa detachment for additional testing, and registered nearly four times the 0.08 per cent legal limit for alcohol concentration in his blood system.

The man, 52, faces several charges, including operating a motor vehicle while impaired and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
