God of War is one of the more notable first-party franchises operating under the PlayStation Studios umbrella and has been revamped for the better in the current generation. The original trilogy featured the Gods of Olympus as they inflicted their will and forced Kratos to serve them until he had enough and rebelled to take control of his destiny. The franchise was renowned for its hack-and-slash gameplay and the deep dive into Greek mythology and the gaming community thinks it should be remade with the same technology used in the Norse Saga.

After the recent Valhalla expansion, the developers remade all older assets from the original trilogy. It wouldn’t be a shame to see these efforts go to waste if the team decided not to pursue a remake trilogy.

Fans Are Still Holding out Hope for a Remake of the Original God of War Trilogy

The gaming community was vocal about their desire to see the remade character model of young Kratos in a full game. After witnessing how the developers of Santa Monica Studio flawlessly brought back Helios in God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla among other things, a remake is entirely possible. Fans pointed out that the developers couldn’t have gone through all of this effort for a brief DLC, and other projects could benefit from it.

Santa Monica Studio is currently working on a secret project with director Cory Barlog and pieces of evidence suggest it could be a brand-new and original IP with no connection to any established franchises. After the Norse Saga wrapped up in God of War Ragnarok, it would make sense for the developers to continue Kratos’s story elsewhere; however, some fans are not ready to move on from the Greek Saga which speaks volumes about its lasting impact.

Other fans suggest this rumored remake project doesn’t necessarily have to be a complete recreation of the original games. This is an opportunity for the developers to flesh out the lore and bridge the storylines between games more seamlessly.

The developers can offer the definitive experience of Kratos’ journey from a vengeful and hateful anti-hero to a man reborn and a god of hope in the Norse Saga on the most powerful PlayStation console of late. Kratos is living proof that no matter how dark or bloody his past can be, he can choose to change for the better.

Santa Monica Studio Shouldn’t Pass up on the Opportunity to Remake God of War

The idea of remaking an already great trilogy with all the modern bells and whistles the game developers have to offer sounds exciting; however, some are against the idea. Fans argue that remake projects will dissuade the developers from making new and original content as the player base is fine with the same old content.

The original trilogy showed Kratos as a ruthless killing machine and showed no signs of remorse which is how creator David Jaffe envisioned. That phase of the character stood out and fans wanted to see that version again in a new coat of paint.

Perhaps this project can be carried out by other studios with the guidance of the original developers. Santa Monica Studio has reached new heights after the unprecedented success of the Norse Saga and made the company one of the top contributors to Sony Interactive Entertainment and PlayStation Studios.

There is a valid argument that these remakes could be viewed as a lazy cash grab; however, it is also a way to preserve older games by remaking them for modern consoles. Players can’t always boot up older consoles to play these beloved classics.
