FC Augsburg midfielder Robin Fellhauer made history on Saturday, capitalising on an early mistake by Manuel Neuer to put his side ahead just eight seconds into their 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich.
In doing so, he set a new record for the fastest goal in Bundesliga history, beating the previous mark of nine seconds, jointly held by Karim Bellarabi and Kevin Volland.
“Being able to contribute with the fastest goal in Bundesliga history makes it even more special. It's indescribable to now be part of something so big,” Fellhauer said after the game, reflecting on his historic achievement.
“I could have taken the shot sooner, but there was too great a risk of missing,” admitted the 28-year-old, adding:
“I felt like I had time, so I wanted to make sure.”
Reflecting on the result, Fellhauer was satisfied with a point against the reigning champions, despite Augsburg taking the lead twice.
“We would definitely have taken a 2-2 draw before the game. We were really lucky on a few occasions, especially in the second half. That's why we can be satisfied with the point and proud of the team. It was a battle in which every single player gave their all, and a real team effort,” he said.
