Jordan Staal scored for his fifth straight game as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 to take a 3-2 series lead in the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday at Lenovo Center.

Andrei Svechnikov had two goals, Sebastian Aho scored, Nikolaj Ehlers had three assists, and goaltender Brandon Bussi made 22 saves for the Hurricanes, who were 2-for-4 on the man advantage.

Pavel Dorofeyev scored twice, Jack Eichel had two assists, and Carter Hart made 20 saves for the Golden Knights, who have dropped two straight and head back to Las Vegas with their season on the line.

Eichel led a perfect power-play entry, performing a give-and-go with Tomas Hertl and protecting the puck around Hurricane defenders Jaccob Slavin and Jalen Chatfield before sending a cross-slot pass over to Dorofeyev for the opening goal at 6:52 of the first period.

It was only the Golden Knights’ second power-play goal of the series — they are 2-for-15 in the series.

Seth Jarvis cut off an outlet pass inside the Vegas zone and sent the puck over to Ehlers, who threw it to the low slot for Staal to redirect for the tying goal at 11:46.

It was the Carolina captain’s sixth goal of the series; he had only two goals across the first three rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The last time Staal scored in five straight NHL games, playoffs or regular season, he was an 18-year-old rookie with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

With the goal, Staal jumped ahead of Vegas forward Mitch Marner on numerous sports betting sites as the leading candidate for the Conn Smythe Trophy (playoff MVP).

Svechnikov’s quick wrister from the top of the right circle fooled Hart, beating him five-hole on a power play to give the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead at 11:58 of the second period.

Aho accepted a cross-ice feed from Sean Walker with his skate and wasted no time lifting it over Hart’s blocker in tight to extend Carolina’s lead to 3-1 at 17:51.
