“He says this but sounds exactly like Harvey Specter”: Stephen Amell’s Suits Spinoff Remark Would Make Gabriel Macht Proud for Finding a Worthy Successor

Netflix usually nails it with its shows, and Suits was no exception — it’s one of their biggest hits and was the most-streamed show of 2023, running for nine seasons. When it ended, many fans felt left out, but that’s set to change with a new spin-off on the way.

Many dedicated fans are cautious about spin-offs because they often don’t live up to the original. However, there’s already a glimpse of what’s to come, as the lead actor is channeling the charisma of the iconic Harvey Specter. Who knows? The new series might just surprise the audience.

Stephen Amell Shared Some Insights On The Expectations For Suits L.A.

Suits is becoming a full-on franchise now, and it looks like fans who’ve been trying to get over the series finale for ages are pretty excited about it. In case anyone missed it, Pearson was the first spin-off of the show, but it was canceled after just ten episodes. It focused on Jessica’s life, but didn’t attract enough viewers.

However, with the announcement of the new Suits L.A., ratings are expected to go up again. The lead actor is already being seen as a big promise by fans. Harvey Specter, a standout character from the original series — portrayed by Gabriel Macht — won over the audience, and it looks like his “successor” is set to continue in the same vein.

Stephen Amell, who will star as Ted Black, gave an interview on the Inside of You Podcast where he shared what fans can expect from the new spin-off series. He acknowledged that the fear of a disappointing production is understandable:

No, it’s never going to be what the original was, and that would be a terrible reason not to take the job. It’s going to be different. It’s set in a different place… and there will be people who watch the original but never watch our version, and that’s okay. Great. Go find something on Apple TV+ then.

It turned out that his words, full of genuine insight, ended up echoing Harvey’s distinctive personality. This, alone, shows that Amell is a great fit for bringing a fresh story to the Suits universe. In an interview with Deadline, he also shared a bit about his experience meeting his character:

(…) I’m trying to focus on what is directly in front of me, and what’s directly in front of me is a pilot script with more words per page than I have said in my entire career, by a factor of five. (…) I’m really excited, and I’ve also really been enjoying the show. I hadn’t seen the original, and I’m familiarizing myself because I think certain shows, they’ll have a syntax to them. But big fan and just glad I get to be a part of the world.

Even so, it’s worth noting that his character might have some similarities to another one besides Harvey, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s also great to see that elements of the original characters are being incorporated into the new ones.

What’s Known About Suits L.A. So Far?

The new spin-off will take place in Los Angeles and will follow the life of former New York federal prosecutor Ted Black, who reinvented himself as a representative for the city’s most influential clients. He’ll be surrounded by people who will test his loyalties, both to them and among themselves. (via People)

The fact that Suits L.A. is set in Los Angeles adds another layer to the plot, as the film and television industry will play a significant role in the characters’ lives. This setting will give the series a more authentic and realistic feel, enhancing the overall atmosphere. (via UPROXX)

Aside from that, nothing has been confirmed about potential cameos or permanent returns of Suits characters, but many of the original cast have already shown interest in coming back if needed. Since the two stories are set in the same universe, it makes sense to bring someone back to keep fans happy.

The new series will also have a completely different cast alongside Amell, including Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, Troy Winbush, Alice Lee, and Bryan Greenberg.
