Gypsy Rose Blanchard had a clear vision for another trip down the aisle: a big wedding, a poofy dress, and her family there to celebrate. Months before Ken Urker’s death, Blanchard opened up about the wedding she hoped to have with him after their years of separation and eventual reunion. Having married her first husband inside a prison visitation room, she wanted a very different experience the next time around. Urker was found dead at a Louisiana residence on October 1, his 34th birthday. Authorities have said the investigation into his death remains ongoing.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard Wanted A ‘Big Wedding’ With Ken Urker
During a May interview with TMZ, Blanchard discussed her hopes for a future wedding with Urker. “I don’t want to have a quick wedding, I want to have the big wedding,” she said.
Blanchard wanted the dress and the chance to gather her loved ones for the occasion. She also recalled where her first marriage began, explaining why she wanted a larger celebration. “I want to have the poofy dress, I want to have the family there, because my first marriage, I got married in the visitation room by the bathroom of a prison,” Blanchard continued at the time. “I deserve my wedding.”
Her comments came after she and Urker had reunited and welcomed their daughter, Aurora. By then, the pair had a history stretching back to her time in prison, including an earlier engagement that ended before they found their way back to each other.
Ken Urker First Reached Out After Watching A Documentary
Blanchard and Urker’s relationship began through letters while she was incarcerated for her role in the 2015 murder of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. Urker watched the HBO documentary “Mommy Dead and Dearest” in 2017 and wrote Blanchard a supportive letter.
The two became pen pals, and their correspondence developed into a relationship. Urker later visited Blanchard in prison before proposing in October 2018. That engagement did not lead to a wedding. They separated the following year, and Blanchard eventually began a relationship with Ryan Anderson.

Blanchard And Urker Reunited Before Welcoming Aurora
Following her split from Urker, Blanchard married Anderson in a prison ceremony in 2022. Her marriage to Anderson fell apart in early 2024, and she subsequently reconciled with Urker. Their reunion came years after their original engagement had ended.
The pair went on to welcome Aurora in December 2024, beginning a new chapter together as parents. Blanchard’s wedding comments followed in May, when she spoke about the kind of ceremony she hoped to have.
Although she described specific wishes for the celebration, the quoted remarks did not include a wedding date. Her focus was on having the experience she had missed during her first marriage, including a gown and her family gathered around her.
Authorities Confirmed Urker’s Death On His Birthday
Urker was found unresponsive at a residence in Raceland, Louisiana, on Thursday, October 1. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed his death to Us Weekly, saying officers “responded to a residence” after “receiving a call at 6:15 p.m.”
Authorities said Urker “was found dead upon arrival” and added, “At this time, we are continuing the death investigation.” He was 34, with the discovery occurring on his birthday.
The police report included accounts from Blanchard’s half-brother, Dylan Blanchard, and his wife, Anita Blanchard. Both spoke with investigators about checking on Urker after he failed to respond.
Police Report Details The Attempt To Check On Urker
Dylan and Anita went to check on Urker along with his boss, Justin Daigle. Urker had not answered his phone or the door at his apartment. Anita called 911 for help as the group tried to reach him.
She told an emergency dispatcher that Dylan and Daigle were able to move some blinds and enter the residence through a window. Inside, they found Urker unconscious and “cold to the touch,” according to the report.
Investigators subsequently spoke with Dylan and Anita about their contact with him before the discovery. The couple told officers that Urker had attended church with them at approximately 8:45 p.m. local time on Wednesday, September 30, the evening before his birthday.
A cause of death has not yet been determined.
