Gladbach left to rue departure of Galatasaray-linked striker Boteli

The Swiss striker's unprecedented rise has left Gladbach regretting their decision to cash in on the 20-year-old this summer.

According to a report from Swiss newspaper Blick, Borussia Mönchengladbach could be regretting letting go of Winsley Boteli.

Marking a rapid rise in his career, the 20-year-old made his Switzerland national team debut, coming on in a 3-0 win over North Macedonia.

In Germany, despite being largely unknown to most fans, Boteli spent three years in the Foals' youth academy with the reserve team.

With his development stalling, Gladbach loaned Boteli to FC Sion last season, with Sion also securing a purchase option of €3.5million.

Back in his native Switzerland, Boteli impressed enough that Sion exercised their purchase option before the current campaign began. 

That purchase option proved to be a mistake for Gladbach – Galatasaray offered over €30million for the striker this past summer.

Ultimately, if he is to be sold, Gladbach will have to make do with a 10% sell-on clause for Boteli who has 13 goals and 5 assists in 15 games this season.
