Giants’ Harrison Bader out for season following scooter crash that worsened foot injury

New details have emerged about San Francisco Giants outfielder Harrison Bader oddly aggravating his foot injury in a scooter accident over the past weekend.

The Giants previously released a statement Tuesday, which stated the 32-year-old “had a scooter accident on Saturday night/early Sunday morning,” before he was set to meet with a specialist in Indianapolis about his lingering plantar fasciitis. However, the aggravation “changed the nature of his evaluation” with the specialist, and Bader was set to undergo an MRI to assess the severity of the new injury.

On Thursday, The San Francisco Chronicle’s Shayna Rubin reported Bader was involved in a vehicle collision while riding a scooter in the Marina District at around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning. He then “was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries,” the San Francisco Fire Department and San Francisco Police Department said in statements to the Chronicle, though Bader wasn’t individually named.

Before Thursday’s game in San Diego, Giants manager Tony Vitello revealed Bader will miss the remainder of the 2026 MLB season, though the scooter incident didn’t impact that status.

Bader hasn’t played for San Francisco since May 29 due to his foot injury, and he also missed about a month earlier in the season with a hamstring injury. As a result, after signing a two-year, $20.5 million free-agent contract last offseason, Bader only has played in 30 games during 2026.

When he has been healthy, the 10-year MLB veteran has struggled at the plate, slashing .170/.198/.358 across 106 at-bats with five home runs and 14 RBI.
