GeoGuessr Officially Announces Roguelite Survival Horror: HorrorGuessr

GeoGuessr fans, a new adventure awaits you this Halloween with HorrorGuessr, a free roguelite survival horror mode that is out today, October 16, 2026. HorrorGuessr is a cool twist on the original formula of identifying locations using Street View that has now become a desperate fight for survival against a monster.

Arriving just in time for Halloween, HorrorGuessr is a new mode that will test your geographical knowledge and resource management with new types of challenges and randomly changing runs. You have to guess the locations while escaping a mysterious creature that grows more dangerous the longer you survive.

HorrorGuessr Turns GeoGuessr Into a Survival Horror Game

The monster in HorrorGuessr is the Black Pano Monster, a terrifying creature that hunts you as you find real-world locations. Every day, you have to guess a location to survive, with incorrect answers costing health. If you move through the level in Street View, every step creates distance between you and the enemy.

This Halloween, we’ve made a new mode that turns GeoGuessr into a roguelite survival horror game where every run is different the only thing that remains the same is the core aspect of the game: DON’T GET CAUGHT! Explore the world while being chased by something mysterious… Make a good enough guess to survive another day and see how far you can make it. This game is TOUGH, and to help you survive you can Visit the Merchant Earn gold and spend it on powerful items and upgrades to help you survive. Build Your Loadout Learn power-ups to help you guess better, and over over 100 unique items that’ll make you stronger! Battle Bosses Face off against terrifying bosses with unique abilities, and guarding strong loot. Some might flip your entire world upside down some might freeze you in place. Keep guessing, get stronger, and try to survive as long as possible. Every run is different. Every decision matters.

The monster never stops chasing you, and staying still allows it to close the gap. You must balance exploring their surroundings with identifying locations quickly enough to avoid being caught. The further a guess lands from the correct location, the more health it consumes, making geographical knowledge essential to surviving longer runs.

The mode has three difficulty settings: Normal, Hard, and Nightmare. Each option changes the challenge, with higher difficulties demanding greater accuracy and punishing mistakes more severely. HorrorGuessr has a progression system that makes every attempt feel different. You can collect gold, visit a merchant, and purchase items that improve your chances of survival.

There are more than 100 unique items with bonuses such as additional health, better movement, reduced damage, and other useful buffs. However, you have limited equipment slots, so you’ll have to pick and choose carefully.

HorrorGuessr Features Boss Battles, Upgrades, and a Terrifying Story

Surviving monsters every day is only part of the challenge. HorrorGuessr also has boss encounters, which replace the usual chase with geographical duels. During these battles, you’ll compete against an opponent by guessing locations, with the difference between their scores determining the damage dealt.

Bosses appear at regular intervals and possess different abilities, forcing players to adapt their strategies. Defeating them unlocks valuable rewards, including equipment, consumable items, and gold. The experience also features a final boss encounter, giving players a major objective beyond simply surviving for as many days as possible.

Players can also use special abilities, including spells that provide additional information about their surroundings, alongside tools that help them escape dangerous situations. One such ability, Happy Thoughts, temporarily freezes the pursuing monster, giving players a brief opportunity to make their next move.
