A fundraiser for Lindsay Clancy‘s anonymous holdout juror has raised more than $100,000 in support following the mistrial. The juror became the focus of intense scrutiny from Clancy supporters after he remained the lone holdout during deliberations, preventing a unanimous verdict.

Amid criticism and the release of information about his background, supporters have rallied behind him and contributed to the fundraiser to help navigate the fallout.

The Lindsay Clancy case has remained deeply divisive, with opinions sharply split over whether she should be held criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children.

That divide became evident during jury deliberations, as most jurors reportedly supported a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity, while one juror disagreed. After seven days of deliberations without a unanimous verdict, the judge declared a mistrial.

The lone juror has been facing heavy backlash from Clancy supporters, especially after other jurors shared what happened during their deliberations. Others, however, commend the juror for standing firm in his position.

Following the mistrial, independent journalist Tom Hennessy launched a GiveSendGo campaign to raise funds to “cover security, lawyers, and lost work.”

The Campaign Has Increased Its Goal To $150K

In the campaign, called “Stand With the Juror,” Hennessy made his stance about the Clancy case known. “They wanted a diagnosis, not a verdict. They wanted her sick, not guilty. They wanted three dead kids memory-holed so nobody had to say the words mother and murderer in the same sentence,” he wrote.

He also added that if the defendant in the case had been a man, there would be no discussions about “feelings” and “mental health.” “A man kills his kids and the country wants him buried. A woman does it and half the country starts writing her a medical alibi,” he added.

Hennessey reminded people that Clancy killed three children and asked people to stand with the holdout juror.

The campaign has surpassed its $100,000 goal, and the goal has been raised to $150,000. More than $108,000 has been raised as of writing.

Lindsay Clancy Holdout Juror Called Courageous

While some of the 12 jurors have spoken out after the mistrial, the holdout remains anonymous. Superior Court Judge William Sullivan also ordered the jury list sealed for two weeks because of safety concerns, as the case remains unresolved.

One juror, Paula Devlin, revealed that at one point during deliberations, they reached a 10-2 verdict for not guilty by reason of insanity, which then became 11-1. “I felt very bad for them, because they felt attacked, and there’s not way to not do that,” she said, referring to the holdout, per The Blast.

Now, many are calling the lone holdout a “hero” for sticking to his stance. On the GiveSendGo page, his supporters offered words of encouragement along with their donations.

“Stand strong! You were right to give justice to the kids,” one said. “Ty for understanding the assignment,” another added. Another commented, “I applaud your bravery in following your conscience and doing the right thing.”

Backlash Grows Over Reporting On Holdout Juror

Some details about the holdout juror have been revealed, with one jury member sharing that he was a Black man. As The Blast noted, NBC10 Boston is facing backlash over an investigative report that detailed the juror’s legal history.

Criticism came from both sides of the Clancy debate, with many questioning the ethics of reporting on publicly available information tied to a private individual who served as a juror in a high-profile case. Many also questioned why NBC10 Boston investigated the holdout juror’s background but not the other jurors’.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke about the incident and offered asylum to the juror, accusing NBC of “trying to smear” the juror.

Juror Said Holdout Could Not Back His Stance With Evidence

A few Clancy jury members spoke out in interviews and revealed what was discussed during deliberations. One said that the holdout juror, like everyone, had reasonable doubt but would not agree to the insanity verdict. Another juror claimed he “disregarded information” that was presented to him.

One juror, Nick Dargie, said the jurors repeatedly asked the holdout to point to the evidence supporting his stance, which he allegedly could not do, per The Blast. The jury deadlocked three times before the mistrial was declared.

Clancy remains charged with three counts of first-degree murder, and the prosecution has not stated whether they will retry the case. Clancy is next due in court on September 29 for a status hearing.
