Two days before Switzerland face Argentina in the World Cup quarter-finals, it remains unclear whether Johan Manzambi will be available for Murat Yakin’s side.

Swiss outlet Blick reports that there are “major doubts” over whether the highly-rated midfielder will be fit for the game.

Manzambi has not yet been able to return to training after suffering a knee injury that ruled him out of Switzerland’s round-of-16 penalty shootout win over Colombia.

The Swiss Football Association has declined to provide any updates on the SC Freiburg midfielder when asked, likely partly for tactical reasons, as they look to keep Argentina guessing over a potential return for as long as possible.

Manzambi suffered the injury on Monday, and with this type of injury typically requiring one to two weeks of recovery, it will be tight for him to be ready for Sunday’s quarter-final.

However, there is still hope within the Swiss camp that the 20-year-old star midfielder could feature.
