FC Midtjylland closing in on Dortmund midfield gem Kjell Wätjen

The highly rated Germany U-20 midfielder has long been labelled one of Dortmund's brightest stars coming through the academy ranks.

According to Danish newspaper Tipsbladet, FC Midtjylland is close to signing Borussia Dortmund talent Kjell Wätjen.

The report states that the parties have “practically agreed on a deal which is expected to be finalized in the near future”.

Sky Germany also backs this information up, estimating that the transfer fee will amount to less than €5million overall.

It has been apparent for some time that Wätjen – similar to several other BVB youth products – no longer has a future in Dortmund. 

Although the versatile midfielder was supposed to be tested as a wing-back during preseason, those plans look to have been ended.

In Denmark, the German U-20 international will meet Mike Tullberg, who previously coached Wätjen in Dortmund's U-19 team.

The youngster's contract with Dortmund runs until 2028 – he was most recently on loan to second-division side VfL Bochum.
