The NBA season has just begun, and drama is already among us. On social media, users are slamming LeBron James for commuting to and from practice with the Philadelphia 76ers in a helicopter, sharing concerns and even referencing Kobe Bryant‘s tragic death in 2020.

In addition to starting his historic 24th season with the 76ers this week, LeBron has already been in the headlines thanks to his wife, Savannah James, who went viral after implying she wouldn’t cover her friends’ first-class plane ticket when they travel together.

LeBron has played for several different NBA teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat, the Los Angeles Lakers, and now, the Philadelphia 76ers. However, LeBron isn’t living in the City of Brotherly Love. In fact, he’s commuting back and forth from the Big Apple.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, LeBron plans to travel via helicopter. Videos of his departure from a September 29 practice were shared online, sparking a flurry of responses from fans who believe the 4x NBA champion’s mode of transportation is overly dangerous.

LeBron James Is Under Fire For Using A Helicopter To Travel Between Philly And New York City

One user called LeBron a ” dumb motherf-cker” before saying he needs to retire, while another said, “LeBron doing too much with this helicopter sh-t.”

Other users mentioned the tragic death of Kobe Bryant, who passed in January 2020 after a helicopter crash involving him, his daughter, and close friends.

“Look, LeBron is a billionaire, is a grown man, he can do whatever he wants, and nobody asked for my opinion.” another user wrote. “However, personally, this is slightly ignorant to me considering how close he was with Kobe and knowing how dangerous this kind of constant travel can be. I know he has very little choice if he’s living in New York and playing in Philly, but still.”

A fourth seemingly agreed, writing, “Bron read the room and still made a choice.”

An NBA Player Warned LeBron James About Flying Into Philadelphia Via Helicopter

Social media users and fans aren’t the only ones concerned with LeBron James’ choices. NBA player Patrick Beverley discussed the situation on a podcast shared on X and warned LeBron to be careful.

“LeBron got a helicopter landing in Camden… Camden is not a place where they’re used to helicopters landing… But Bron, be careful, cause Camden isn’t the greatest neighborhood. People gonna start throwing rocks at them motherf–ing helicopters, so be cool out there,” he said.

LeBron Opens Up About His Upcoming Season In Philadelphia

LeBron’s new travel schedule comes as his 24th season and first with the 76ers begins, according to a previous report from The Blast. The Olympic gold medalist told reporters during NBA Media Day that he decided to come to Philadelphia after speaking with teammate Tyrese Maxey about his goals and his thoughts about the organization’s future.

“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time,” LeBron said before shutting down questions about whether he would stay with the team past his two-year contract.

“I think that would be doing a disservice to myself on just living in the moment, especially knowing that I am where I am in my career. So, me trying to focus on what the future looks like would be like, I wouldn’t be giving myself grace. I’m more in the present now, understanding that I’m in year 24,” he explained.

Earlier this week, LeBron’s wife, Savannah, made headlines after fans slammed the billionaire couple after she implied she wouldn’t cover her friends’ first-class flight while traveling.

“My friends are very respectful of my situation. You know, if I’m like, ‘We’re going somewhere,’ they already understand what it is,” she said. “There’s no expectation of, like, taking care of something or, you know, just having me be responsible for them. It has never, ever been that.”

Netizens weren’t impressed, though, with one writing, “There is absolutely NO way my best friend is flying different from me. The absolute least she could do was pay for the upgrade from business to first class.”
