Fact Check: Jamie Lee Curtis’ Comment on Her Trans Daughter’s Appearance Sparks Backlash, Did She Really Say It?

Jamie Lee Curtis landed in hot water with some fans after an alleged comment on her trans daughter’s appearance. A post, widely shared on social media, claimed that Curtis said nobody knew which of her daughters is trans. Besides her trans daughter Ruby, Curtis is also a parent to an elder daughter, Annie.

Many fans were upset with this comment, as they deemed the comparison to be unfair to either of her daughters. Other comments were more hateful, bashing Curtis and her daughter, Ruby. However, it appears that Curtis did not make that comment anywhere. It is unknown where the comment originated from and appears to be fake.

Ruby got married to her partner, Kynthia, in 2022. Curtis officiated the cosplay-themed wedding. Earlier this year, in May, Curtis took to Instagram to celebrate three years of their union. Ruby currently works as a video editor for a YouTuber in the gaming niche.

Annie married her husband, Jason Wolf, in 2019. She is a dance instructor at MNR Dance Factory in Los Angeles.

Jamie Lee Curtis’s daughter came out as trans publicly in 2021. A year before that, Ruby revealed this news to her parents. Curtis and her husband, Christopher Guest, have been nothing but supportive towards Ruby. However, it didn’t mean that she had no worries on her mind. Ruby shared in an interview with PEOPLE:

Curtis told the outlet that she was just a “grateful student”, helping out her daughter through the journey. She first announced the big news during an interview with the AARP magazine, where she shared:

During her PEOPLE interview, Curtis shared that while she was going to make mistakes in her daughter’s journey, she would try to avoid making big mistakes. She shared, “I am new at it. I am not someone who is pretending to know much about it.”

During her appearance on Morning Joe in August 2023, she shared that she was surprised to find out that people applauded her for accepting Ruby. She shared:

The Halloween actress has taken on some strong public stances, including her support for the LGBTQ+ community. Prior to Donald Trump’s win in the 2024 elections, Curtis told her followers to “wake up and fight” for their rights and freedoms.

When the election results came, she shared on Instagram that it highlighted “what America and democracy looks like.” Curtis shared that it will be a difficult and restrictive period ahead for many minority groups and young people. She extended her help to anyone fearing that their rights would be denied.

Charlize Theron publicly proclaimed her support for her eldest child, Jackson, who came out as trans. So there you go!’” She even asked the press to use the right pronouns for her (via Pride Source). She also has another daughter, August Theron.

Cher‘s son Chaz Bono documented his transition in the Emmy-nominated 2011 documentary, Becoming Chaz. He came out in 2009, and Cher later revealed that she struggled with Bono’s transition initially. However, she told TODAY, “Chaz is so happy, so unbelievably happy, and I don’t know what the people’s problems are.”

Celebrity couple Annette Bening and Warren Beatty’s eldest child, Stephen Ira, came out as a trans man in 2012. Beatty shared with Vanity Fair in 2016, “[Stephen is] a revolutionary, a genius, and my hero, as are all my children.” Bening called her son “incredibly brilliant” during an interview with THR. Colin Mochrie of Whose Line Is It Anyway? fame and his actress wife, Debra McGrath, are parents to trans daughter Kinley. Mochrie told ET Canada, “This is my child, the exact same person, with a new coat. All you want when you have a child is for them to be safe, to be happy, and to be better than you” (via Distractify).

The Breakfast Club star Ally Sheedy is also a parent to trans son Beckett Alexander. Sheedy told PEOPLE in 2022, “I feel very comfortable talking to anyone whose kid is just beginning the process of transition. Parents need to educate themselves.” She is involved with the LGBTQ+ advocacy group, PFLAG.
