A mall on North Road in Coquitlam has been heavily damaged after an explosion early Sunday morning

A major explosion at a Coquitlam strip mall early Sunday morning has left the building in tatters.

The blast at 341 North Rd. near Lougheed Highway at about 6:30 a.m. blew out the entire front facing of the mall.

There is no word yet on what caused the explosion and no injuries have been reported.

Coquitlam Fire Rescue Services referred all inquiries to the local RCMP detachment. Calls to police in Coquitlam have not been returned.

The mall includes an optometry clinic, karaoke bar, a cafe and several storefront restaurants.
