Everything Chris Evans Has Said About Returning as Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday

Chris Evans‘s name did not come up in the cast release for Avengers: Doomsday, but that does not stop us from speculating if the actor is, in fact, returning to play Captain America.

For starters, look at him attending the Toronto International Film Festival in September:

If that’s not Captain America, we don’t know who is!

Then, there’s the fact that insider Daniel Richtman, aka DanielRPK, reported that not only Evans, but Hayley Atwell, too, would be reprising their respective roles in Avengers: Doomsday. As per the report, Marvel Studios will film scenes with both Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter in their house (via X).

The Wrap has also previously reported that Evans would be playing a part in Doomsday, although the nature of his role remains unclear. With many rumors and reports circulating on the Internet, we do not know what to believe. Let’s hear it from Evans himself.

Chris Evans Is Going Through FOMO

During the promotions of his underwhelming film, Materialists, Evans sat down for an interview with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley. He was also joined by his co-star, Dakota Johnson.

In the middle of the conversation, the host asks Evans if he has had the chance to talk to his former coworkers – Robert Downey Jr, the Russo Brothers, etc – who are returning to the MCU.

Evans stated that while he talks to them all the time, “it’s sad” that he is not in the picture anymore. He said,

It goes without saying that even if Evans returns to play Captain America, he wouldn’t reveal any secrets beforehand. He’s not Tom Holland, after all…

Chris Evans Has Happily Retired From Captain America

This isn’t the only time Evans has talked about not returning to the franchise. Earlier this year, Anthony Mackie, aka the new Captain America, did a feature for Esquire to promote Brave New World.

He talked about Evans’ possible return to the role, stating, “I learned that right there. My manager showed me. He’s like, ‘Oh, so I guess Chris is coming back.’ That’s all I know. I haven’t seen a script.“

Unfortunately for Mackie and his manager, Evans denied the rumors for good. He told the outlet, “That’s not true, though. This always happens. I mean, it happens every couple years—ever since ‘Endgame‘. I’ve just stopped responding to it… Yeah, no—happily retired!“

Well, it is worth noting that after Avengers: Endgame, Evans did come back to the MCU, even if it was for a short, yet iconic, part in Deadpool & Wolverine. Of course, his character didn’t make it out alive.

Meanwhile, we fans will continue to dissect every public appearance, cryptic comment, and insider report until the release of Doomsday. Even though Evans has made it clear that his MCU journey has ended for good, there’s no harm in hoping, right?
