As of Friday evening, the B.C. Wildfire Service had mapped the Saw Creek blaze at 100 hectares.

The service says the wildfire, which broke out Friday and is suspected to be human caused, is burning at rank 4 and 5, meaning a highly to extremely vigorous surface fire.

Fire officials say hot and dry conditions are exacerbating the situation.

Highway 1 is closed between Cottonwood Road and Airport Road for 116 kilometres, according to Drive B.C. Drivers are advised to use Highway 5 and Highway 97 C as alternative routes.

An evacuation alert has been issued for residents in the Village of Lytton.

“There is no need evacuate at this time, but be prepared to do so on short notice if an evacuation order is issued,” a notice says on the village website.

The Lytton First Nation has also issued an evacuation alert.

If an evacuation order is issued, evacuees can report to the Lytton First Nation Battlefield Community Hall for shelter.
