Megyn Kelly has publicly urged Erika Kirk to consider stepping down from her position at Turning Point USA (TPUSA) a year after the assassination of her husband, Charlie Kirk.

Speaking on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” the journalist said she wanted the widow to take time away from leading a political organization so she could grieve and focus on caring for her children.

Charlie Kirk was fatally shot a year ago while speaking during a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, and his wife Erika Kirk assumed leadership of the conservative nonprofit shortly after.

In her discussion with Piers Morgan, Kelly revealed that she wanted Erika to take time off from her responsibilities at TPUSA. “I personally would like to see her take some personal time,” she said.

Kelly explained that she hoped the 37-year-old widow would “remove herself from the nonstop battering ram that is heading up a political organization in the United States of America and allow herself a year to just work on healing.”

The host of “The Megyn Kelly Show” said her concern was primarily that Erika take time to help her kids and herself heal rather than her performance as CEO, which she believes Erika has done “miraculously” well.

Kelly praised Erika for enduring the “overwhelming suffering” caused by the death of her husband while simultaneously taking responsibility for his organization and its significant political scope.

However, she believes that after at least a year of “miraculously and heroically” getting TPUSA through the assassination of its founder, it’s time to step away for her own sake.

Kelly also addressed the conspiracies that have come up following Kirk’s murder and the scrutiny Erika has faced as a result of it.

She rejected conspiracies such as the ones that implicate the widow or accuse her of being complicit in her husband’s assassination.

“The overwhelming suffering has been caused by Charlie’s murder and not by the internet nonsense, but that’s been an added burden on her. There’s no question, I don’t like it,” Kelly asserted.

The show host separated those “nonsense” allegations from criticisms directed at Erika because of her role as CEO of TPUSA.

She argued that Erika, staying on as the head of the conservative nonprofit, is “part of the reason this is happening.” Kelly suggested that the 37-year-old maintaining her position as CEO would in some ways make criticizing her “fair game.”

Erika Kirk Has Faced Heavy Scrutiny Since Taking Over Her Late Husband’s CEO Role At TPUSA

Erika has been met with nonstop criticism over the past year from people who disagree with the way she’s conducted herself since Kirk was shot.

She has also been at the center of wild conspiracy theories from right-wing influencers and figures, including her husband’s close pal, Candace Owens, who has consistently called out Erika, going as far as questioning her ability to lead TPUSA.

She has consistently rejected the claims about her having a hand in her husband’s murder, but the controversy has continued to follow her as some people, especially those with a significant audience, continue to find things to gripe about her behavior and actions following the high-profile assassination.

As previously reported by The Blast, earlier this year, Erika and TPUSA took legal action by sending cease-and-desist letters to several online figures, most notably Owens, demanding an end to the public speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding Charlie’s death.

Erika Kirk Reflects On Grief One Year Later

Erika recently published a personal essay in The New York Times shortly before the September 10 anniversary of her husband’s death.

In the essay, the widow described dealing with her grief while trying to care for her children and handling her responsibilities.

She wrote, “I am learning that grieving Charlie and living life at the same time are part of the rhythm of grief.”

Erika revealed advice she received from the Second Lady of the United States, Usha Vance, who gave her a way to approach dealing with her grief while managing so much.

“Just get through the next 15 minutes,” Usha told her after using an airplane analogy to get her point across.

Erika explained that she welcomes the grief sometimes as it makes her husband feel “impossibly close.”

The grief remained with her as she went through her daily life, but she was able to find the strength to carry on through her Christian faith and Usha’s sage advice.

The Legal Battle With Charlie Kirk’s Alleged Shooter

The commentary surrounding Erika and TPUSA coincides with ongoing legal action regarding Kirk’s murder a year after the incident.

A Utah judge ordered 23-year-old suspect Tyler Robinson to stand trial and face all seven charges filed against him, including aggravated murder, after preliminary court hearings.

Robinson has also pleaded not guilty to all charges but will face the death penalty should he be convicted, as aggravated murder is a capital offense in the state of Utah.

Reacting to the judge’s ruling, Erika said in a statement that it is an “important step” in her “family’s pursuit of justice” for Charlie Kirk.
