A video clip shared on X showed him smiling and walking out to applause before he was hit in the chest by what appeared to be a vinyl record.
The guitar icon didn’t return to perform the expected encore, which would have been his cover of Bo Diddley’s Before You Accuse Me.
Fan site issues warning
Clapton’s fan site WheresEric.com addressed the incident, saying the musician’s “first appearance in the city in 25 years ended on a down note.”
It said, “Eric is fine,” while warning fans against throwing anything at the stage.
“You can seriously injure someone in the band, the crew, venue staff or even another concertgoer,” it added.
Clapton, who is currently touring across Europe, played his next show in Barcelona, Spain, on Sunday as scheduled.

Recent objects thrown by fans
The incident followed a recent trend of fans throwing objects at musicians during concerts.
Last summer, country star Luke Bryan was hit in the face by a ball thrown at him at the North Dakota State Fair.
In 2023, pop star Bebe Rexha was struck in the face with a cellphone during a show in New York City. She ended up with a black eye and a severe laceration to her eyebrow that required stitches.
