Emily Blunt Reveals The Extreme Measures Taken to Keep The Devil Wears Prada 2 a Secret

Emily Blunt has finally broken her silence on The Devil Wears Prada 2, slated to hit theaters next year, almost two decades after the original classic. Given that the shoot has been bombarded by a swarm of fans and paparazzi, in order to keep things under wraps, Blunt revealed they had to swap costumes in bathrooms to avoid giving anything away (via Variety).

Considering it’s a fashion-centric movie, their commitment to keeping their costumes for the movie under wraps is understandable. However, in the age of social media, nothing stays hidden for long, and the follow-up’s production, like many major Hollywood movies, hasn’t been immune to on-set leaks.

Despite Tight Measures, The Devil Wears Prada 2 Can’t Escape Leaks

While the crew haven’t shied away from keeping the mystique surrounding the sequel intact, there have been some notable on-set leaks, giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come. These involve a sneak peek at Anne Hathaway‘s Andy and Blunt’s Emily Charlton.

In an X post, the two were seen hugging it out in what appeared to be autumn ensembles in the fashion capital of Milan. As for what it could indicate for the follow-up’s direction? Given that the duo share an ambivalent moment of mutual respect at the end of the original, it seems the two might be making full amends this time around.

Then again, we’re mostly in the dark when it comes to the story, which isn’t surprising following the crew’s dedication to secrecy,

The sequel will see Anne Hathaway’s Andy, a big-time editor for a magazine, reuniting with Emily, with Meryl Streep‘s Miranda re-entering her life. With the original trio and Stanley Tucci returning, new additions to the cast include Lady Gaga,  Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, BJ Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Rachel Bloom and Patrick Brammall (via Variety).

Helen J Shen and Conrad Ricamora, notable for their work on Broadway, and comedian Caleb Hearon will also star in the sequel. When asked about the plot, Blunt reasonably remained tight-lipped on the subject, as Disney is notorious for its strict adherence to keeping things behind the curtains.

In addition to Streep, Hathaway, Blunt, and Tucci, Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman will also reprise their respective roles from the original. With the original director and writer,  David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna, rejoining forces for the sequel, hopefully, it’ll live up to the hype.
