Pirmin Schwegler has been appointed as Eintracht Frankfurt's new head of professional football, the Bundesliga club announced on Saturday.

The 37-year-old, who wore the club's armband for three years as a player, will take up the post on 1 January.

“As a former professional and player at Eintracht Frankfurt, Pirmin Schwegler can share a lot of his experience with the young players and support them in their day-to-day development," said Eintracht board member for sport Markus Krösche.

“He will work closely with the team, hold plenty of talks and therefore serve as an important point of contact for the lads. We want to ensure the immediate team environment is as professional as possible. With Timmo Hardung as sporting director and Christoph Preuß as head of the first-team department, we’re very well set up. Pirmin is a very good fit for the team.”

Schwegler's most recent role was as director of professional football at TSG Hoffenheim between July 2023 and September 2024.
