Harry Kane got on the scoresheet for the first time this season on Wednesday, bagging a brace as Bayern Munich secured a 4-1 win over VfL Osnabrück in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.

Bayern are in talks with the 33-year-old over a contract extension beyond the end of the season and remain confident of eventually reaching an agreement, as board member for sport Max Eberl told reporters after the game.

“A formality is, of course, relative. The talks have to take place, just as the games have to be played, that’s clear,” Eberl said.

“What we can say is that both sides want it, and then it should work out. Whether it will be easy, I don’t know, but we remain confident.”

Kane will have another chance to find the net when Bayern face Schalke on Saturday.
