Dortmund's Maxi Beier set for shock Germany call-up ahead of World Cup

The versatile BVB forward is expected to be announced as part of Julian Nagelsmann's squad traveling to the USA, Mexico and Canada next month.

As reported by Sky Germany this evening, Maximilian Beier has been called up to the German national team's World Cup squad.

The Borussia Dortmund star hadn't made the cut for the last two international breaks, but his fortune has now turned at just the right time.

Beier's versatility may have been key in his nomination, given he has played as both both as a second striker and on the left wing. 

Alongside Nico Schlotterbeck, Waldemar Anton, and Felix Nmecha, Beier is set to be the fourth BVB player in the German national team squad.

The 23-year-old put in an impressive shift in the second-half of the Bundesliga season to finish on 9 goals and 8 assists in 32 games.
