Tom Cruise is known for his extreme commitment to his roles, no matter how death-defying they may be. From intense preparations for his dramatic roles to doing his own stunts, Cruise gives it all to entertain the audience most authentically and spectacularly.
One of his most underrated films remains Edge of Tomorrow, which has surprisingly funny moments for a film about an alien race destroying the world. Cruise played a soldier who gains the ability to respawn after death and hence becomes a powerful weapon. Cruise reportedly worked extensively to develop different screams for the death scenes.
Tom Cruise’ Teenager-like Scream In Edge Of Tomorrow Was Not That Easy
Tom Cruise has done some amazing things for a film. He has jumped off a cliff with a motorbike, he has broken his foot while jumping between buildings and continued to run, and he has climbed the Burj Khalifa for a scene in the Mission Impossible series. The actor is known for his extreme commitment to entertainment.
Hence, when he got the role of Major William Cage in Edge of Tomorrow, he began developing the character and the type of deaths for the respawning soldier. Cruise revealed that he had his stunt team come up with multiple gory and violent death sequences to really hit the point home.
On his appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Cruise also mentioned that he worked for a year to develop different screams for Cage’s death scenes. The actor has multiple death scenes in the film, one of which sees him get run over by a truck.
We kept working on the different screams because it had to be a little bit like that kind of sound that you just don’t want to hear yourself scream that way. ‘Did I really scream like that?’
Cruise’s scream after the accident sounds so unlike him and is one of the most hilarious parts of the film. The teen-like scream is only made more funny by co-star Bill Paxton’s hilarious line delivery.
Emily Blunt Reveals How A Scene In Edge of Tomorrow Almost Broke Tom Cruise’s Spirit
Tom Cruise is not just an extremely committed performer who would stop at nothing to get the action right, but he is also known for being a team player and is often praised by his co-stars for making them feel comfortable. He has been known for his unending positivity despite the film set being a place of extreme pressure.
However, one scene reportedly made even Tom Cruise almost lose his undying spirit. Emily Blunt revealed on The Graham Norton Show that a scene in Edge of Tomorrow saw the cast and crew hanging around in a small cabin with their exosuits on and it was a tiring day.
It is so hot in there and the camera crew are bumping into us…people are miserable…And Tom with his insatiable positivity and I can just see it starting to unravel…I remember looking a him and he was like, ‘Guys, please roll’. And I just looked at him and went, ‘This sucks’. And he looks at me and he goes, ‘It’s a challenge’.
Blunt mentioned that she tried to get him to say that the day sucked and break his spirit even further but it never happened. Cruise mentioned that he would not stop complaining if he ever started.
Edge of Tomorrow is currently available to stream on Apple TV+.
