Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel were a part of the Fast & Furious franchise for some time until their feud broke to a much bigger scale. Although they have reconciled their differences, it wasn’t always the case.
With Johnson creating the iconic 2019 film Hobbs & Shaw, Diesel was quite angry at The Rock for leaving the franchise like that. Despite the emotions, Vin Diesel couldn’t help but be proud of Hobbs.
Vin Diesel Is Proud of Officer Hobbs
The feuds were quite evident while Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel were working together in the Fast & Furious franchise. However, after a while, the feuds became public knowledge after Johnson left the franchise.
But before leaving the franchise, The Rock and Jason Statham created a film that was somewhat out of the main storyline. The 2019 film Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw was the result.
In an interview with Men’s Health, Diesel talked about how despite their feud, he is damn proud of the character of Hobbs. The actor also addressed their feud and called it a part of “tough love”.
It was a tough character to embody, the Hobbs character. My approach at the time was a lot of tough love to assist in getting that performance where it needed to be.
He further continued,
Hobbs hits you like a ton of bricks. That’s something that I’m proud of, that aesthetic. That took a lot of work.
According to his statements, it seems like Vin Diesel is a big fan of tough love. Well, it is that tough love that might have been a hurting point between him and Dwayne Johnson.
Although the two have reconciled now, it seems from Diesel’s statements that he would have taken the matter further if The Rock hadn’t left the Fast & Furious franchise!
Vin Diesel Is Prepared To Do Anything It Takes
As the interview further continued, Diesel talked about how there was a certain tough love on the sets of his movies. The actor stated that he needed to provide it since he was one of the producers of the franchise.
This “tough love” might have been one of the reasons that the feud between Dewayne Johnson and Vin Diesel happened in the first place. According to Diesel, however, a movie should be good at all costs, even if it comes at a personal price!
We had to get there and sometimes, at that time, I could give a lot of tough love. Not Felliniesque, but I would do anything I’d have to do in order to get performances in anything I’m producing.
On the other hand, Johnson’s 2019 spin-off Hobbs & Shaw received a rating of 6.5/10 on IMDB and an average of 67% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film was, however, considered a roaring success.
Fast X showcased Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson finally returning to the franchise after some years. The world is quite excited about the future of the franchise especially now that The Rock and Diesel are on the same team.
Hobbs & Shaw is available to stream on Prime Video in the U.S.
