Debutant Moreira and returnee Boniface shine in Bayer Leverkusen’s first pre-season test

Bayer Leverkusen beat SF Baumberg 7-0 in their first pre-season fixture.

Bayer Leverkusen scored seven unanswered goals in their opening pre-season game against SF Baumberg. The match was played as part of the inauguration of the MEGA Stadion, which is the new ground for the fifth-tier club.

New coach Carles Martínez used a 4-2-3-1 formation for the game played in two 35-minute halves. New signing Afonso Moreira scored twice in the first-half that also saw Christian Kofane find the back of the net for Die Werkself.

With a completely different team, Leverkusen added four goals after the break. The future of Victor Boniface is still up in the air, but he made a very good first impression in front of the Spaniard coach with two goals in the space of five minutes.

The captain Robert Andrich scored the sixth goal from outside the box before a close-range finish from Nathan Tella three minutes before the final whistle. Marquee signing Kennet Eichhorn was absent due to a minor infection.

Bayer Leverkusen will have an open training session on Tuesday morning at the BayArena. Including Exequiel Palacios, who will be in Argentina’s squad that will face France in Sunday’s final, the World Cup players will join the pre-season at latter days.
