David Muir ditches ‘narcissistic’ clothespin as he returns to the air to cover LA fires

David Muir appears to have ditched his now-infamous clothespin.

The ABC anchor returned to “World News Tonight” Thursday to cover the Los Angeles wildfires, one day after facing backlash for cinching his flame-retardant yellow jacket to achieve a sleeker look.

Muir, 51, wore the same coat during his latest broadcast, but it was unzipped this time and therefore had a looser fit, so he seemingly did not need a clothespin on the back.

Wednesday’s embarrassing faux pas was accidentally revealed to the journalist’s audience when he turned to the side while broadcasting live, showing off the terrible devastation wrought by the wildfires.

Page Six exclusively reported Thursday that people at the network were “embarrassed and horrified” by Muir’s fashion choice.

“His narcissism is quite large in the sense of this kind of thing,” a source told us. “I like David, except for this part of him. Anderson [Cooper], [Chris] Cuomo wear all the [muscle shirts], but they would never wear this [during a wildfire].”

Another insider wasn’t quite as kind.

“It’s pathetic,” they groused to Page Six. “All flexed muscles and posing. He’s actually ‘Zoolander’ meets ‘Anchorman.’ He forgets he is the face of ABC News, not Abercrombie & Fitch!”

A third source called the move “outrageous,” and yet another noted that covering a tragedy “shouldn’t be about vanity. It should be about people losing their homes.”

However, some people defended the clothespin, explaining that it is the norm for high-profile field reporters.

Muir’s Instagram account is peppered with photos of the news anchor staring moodily into the camera while wearing tops that accentuate his toned physique.

The “20/20” anchor is in California covering the horrific wildfires engulfing the state. At least 10 people have been killed, nearly 200,000 displaced and approximately 35,000 acres of land have burned down.
