Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz

SUMMARY

  • Daniel Craig's James Bond role affected his marriage to Rachel Weisz.
  • The demanding role left Craig with little time for Weisz.
  • Craig's commitment to Bond made him "very hard to live with."

Even though Daniel Craig has been famous for playing quite a few characters following his breakthrough in the entertainment industry through Our Friends in the North, his best role to date still ranks as one of the most iconic iterations of James Bond of all time. But while the part brought him tremendous fame and wealth, it also seriously meddled with his personal life indirectly.

As it turns out, though his immaculate portrayal of the fan-favorite peerless spy has left behind a legacy very few could live up to, it has done no favors to Craig’s current wife Rachel Weisz. Apparently, Bond was exactly what was causing further rifts in his 13-year-long married life as it left him as a “broken” man “very hard to live with” until the time he let go of the character.

Daniel Craig Dealt With Rifts in His Married Life Due to James Bond

Daniel Craig may have been married to Rachel Weisz for more than a decade, but their life together hasn’t always been merry-go-lucky. And, ostensibly enough, the actor’s one of the best roles to date seems to have added further rifts into his already struggling married life. The reason why? Well, it seems like Bond simply required a lot more of Craig than his own wife.

According to what a source exclusively told Closer, up until he was done with No Time to Die, the 56-year-old actor had little to no time to spare for his wife. Besides undergoing enormous physical training, diet, and work for the pieces, Craig also had to be present for “plenty of side jobs and commercials and promotion, beyond just the acting and bone-shattering stunts.”

That’s not all. Since Daniel Craig is renowned for his utter commitment to his role, his Bond films were no exception either. This had him strictly adhering to not only the demanding shoots and rigorous training to stay in shape.

But while this transformed him into one of the best Bonds to date, it backfired badly in his personal life as all of it made Craig “very hard to live with.”

Further adding barriers to his leading a happy married life “was all the drinking he did, that wasn’t exactly conducive to a happy marriage,” as the source went on to claim. That said, Weisz must have inevitably spent a hard time throughout the one-and-a-half-decades that her husband spent playing the peerless spy, even though she herself was working throughout this duration.

Nonetheless, this situation seems to be changing now that the Knives Out actor has left behind the role for good. According to what the insider claimed about Craig: “He admits that he wasn’t the most attentive husband, but that’s changed.” If anything, the actor even seems to be a lot happier after retiring from the ever-so-demanding role with its even more grueling shoot schedules.

Daniel Craig is Reportedly “Centering His World Around Rachel” Now

After more than a decade of playing 007, Craig finally seems to be coming around back to Weisz. Thanks to him dropping the character to focus more on his other roles and personal life, the source claims that the Spectre star is reportedly “now centering his world around Rachel, and he has a whole lot more time to dote on her.”

As per what the source further claimed about Craig and Weisz’s love life while talking about his exclusive role in his upcoming romance-drama Queer:

Everyone knows they’ve had his issues, but things have calmed down enormously. Not having the responsibility of playing James Bond has done wonders for their relationship because Daniel can finally be a whole lot more present. He’s thrilled to be having this success and to be in a better place with Rachel, everyone’s noticed just how much happier he is now.

With all of this being put out there, it becomes easier to understand why Daniel Craig decided to give up on the role of the peerless spy despite becoming one of the best iterations of the character in fans’ eyes. And, for whatever it’s worth, we’re glad the actor decided to take this route.

All of Daniel Craig’s James Bond films can currently be streamed on Prime Video.
