Dallas Cowboys and QB Dak Prescott agree to record $240 million contract

The Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott have agreed to a four-year, $240 million contract that will make him the highest-paid player in NFL history, per multiple reports.

The deal includes $231 million in guaranteed money. ESPN reported the signing first.

Prescott was set to enter the final year of his current contract. The long, drawn-out negotiation ended with him earning the biggest contract in league history, valued at $60 million a season.

Prescott, 31, was a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He is headed into his ninth season in the NFL, all with the Cowboys. Over his career, he has a 73-41 record, but only a 2-5 record in the postseason.

Last season, Prescott set career highs in completions (410) and touchdowns (36), throwing for 4,516 yards with only nine interceptions. He led Dallas to a 12-5 record, but the Cowboys lost at home in the first round of the playoffs to the Green Bay Packers.

Prescott is the second Cowboy to sign a new contract after an extended negotiation this offseason. He joins his top receiver CeeDee Lamb as key offensive players who’ve signed new deals. Now both Prescott and Lamb are signed through 2028.

The Cowboys will play the Cleveland Browns in their Week 1 opener.
