The province’s Special Investigations Unit said it is investigating after police were called Saturday at 7:40 a.m. to an apartment near Woolner Ave. — in the Jane St.-St. Clair Ave. area — where a man allegedly stabbed one person and threatened others with a staple gun.

When police found a man in a hallway, he allegedly approached officers with a staple gun. The SIU said one officer discharged a sock round and struck the man, and several Tasers were also fired.

When the assailant locked himself in an apartment, the SIU said, one officer discharged a firearm, but the man was not hit.

Emergency Task Force officers attempted to negotiate with the man before entering the apartment. Officers fired Tasers at the man, who was arrested and taken to a hospital with a serious injury.

No police were injured.
