Washington Commanders safety Jeremy Reaves celebrated his team's win against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday by dropping to one knee and asking his longtime girlfriend a very important question.
Video circulating on social media shows Reaves on one knee at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, asking an emotional Mikaela Worley to marry him. The couple then embrace, and Reaves slips the ring on her finger as they pose for pictures to commemorate the moment.
Reaves, 28, proposed after the Commanders beat the Falcons 30-24 Sunday night, securing their spot in the playoffs.
"I hate losing, so there’s no way I could have done that in the right spirit after a loss," Reaves told The Associated Press. "That thing was burning a hole in my pocket."
Reaves, who gave Worley's family a heads up before the proposal, said, "If we win this game, it's destiny," according to the AP.
"She’s earned it. I can’t say enough about her," Reaves told the AP. "When I was at my lowest last year, she was there to pick me up every day. She showed up. That’s my best friend. Been my best friend since high school."
After the proposal, Reaves posted on X that he's glad he was able to share the special moment with his fans.
Reaves, a Florida native, joined the Commanders in 2019. In 2023, he had surgery to repair a partially torn ACL, according to the AP.
"I was going through the worst last year coming off an ACL [tear]. Couldn’t do anything, couldn’t be my own man, and she was the crutch there when I couldn’t do it myself," Reaves told the AP.
