The Penguin serves as a continuation of Matt Reeves’ The Batman. It consists of eight episodes which will bridge the gap between Robert Pattinson’s first DC film and its second chapter.

Colin Farrell Felt Extremely Uncomfortable in His The Penguin Bodysuit

Reprising his iconic role from 2022’s The Batman, actor Colin Farrell steps into Oswald Cobblepot’s shoes again in HBO’s The Penguin series. While he loved playing the character, he is not quite fond of sitting for three hours every shooting day to transform into the villain.

Filming may take long hours and that’s where his agony begins. In his interview via IMDb, Farrell said that whenever he puts on his bodysuit, his core temperature rises to a half degree, leaving him sweating all day.

It is a good thing he was provided with a tent where he would stay in and cool down in between takes. He also mentioned that whenever they shoot in the studio, they have the temperature controlled and put to the lowest degree. The entire crew came in their winter coats because it was freezing and nobody could properly work, but for the benefit of Farrell and his makeup not falling off, they endured it all.

Inside his tent were three industrial air conditioners that saved him from terrible heat between takes. “In between takes… which would only be 3 or 4 minutes, I’d leave the set, go into the tent, cool down for a couple of minutes and back out,” he shared. He called it his lifesaver.

While speaking with Total Film via Games Radar, Farrell expressed frustration over his unbearable costume: “When I finished I was like, ‘I never want to put that f—king suit and that f—king head on again.” The first episode has just been released, but the talks of a sequel are already making its rounds and it will only happen if the actor is willing to go back and wear the bodysuit again.

With the release of The Penguin, Farrell teased fans with what’s in store for them. It may have been a long wait but the show will certainly make up for it after he told Jonatan Blomberg from MovieZine that “it’s really dark and really heavy.”

He also praised showrunner Lauren LeFranc for writing “a really twisted eight hours of television.” So far, the series has received an incredible 89% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, proving fans have been enjoying Oswald’s quest for power and control in Gotham City.

The Penguin is currently available to watch on HBO.
